Privacy Policy

The Saskatchewan Cancer Agency respects the privacy of its donors. In accordance with Saskatchewan privacy legislation, the Agency protects and secures the personal information it collects from donors.

Purpose of Collection of Information

The Saskatchewan Cancer Agency collects and uses personal information from donors using Raisers Edge, a software provider for the purpose of processing donations and storing information. 

Information Collected

The Saskatchewan Cancer Agency collects the following information from donors:

  • Donor name, address, contact number(s) and email address
  • Name of institution or organization donating
  • Donor comments
  • Amount donated and or history of donation
  • Area of the Agency that the donor wants his/her donation to be allocated
  • Patient medical information will not be collected or stored in Raisers Edge

If a donor makes a donation in honour or in memory of an individual or group then the address of that individual will be collected for the purpose of indicating to those individuals that a donation has been made in their name.   

Need to Know

Only Saskatchewan Cancer Agency employees who need to know your personal information for the purposes of collection and use as stated above will access your information. 

Use of Personal Information

The Saskatchewan Cancer Agency uses personal information collected from donors for the following purposes:

  • Thanking donors for their contribution(s)
  • Distributing receipts for donations
  • Internal analysis and record keeping or external agency reporting (no identifiable information will be reported)  
  • Corresponding with donors when a donor has initiated contact with us
  • Acknowledging donations made in honour of or in memory of an individual or group

The Saskatchewan Cancer Agency will not contact donors for further fundraising purposes or otherwise use your information unless as stated above. 

Disclosure

The Saskatchewan Cancer Agency:

  • Will not disclose personal information unless authorized by the donor or by law  
  • Will not publicize individual donor names, donor address, or amounts of contribution unless as authorized by the donor or by law   
  • Will not share, sell, trade or lease any donor names or personal information without prior approval
  • Will honour the stated preference of any donor for anonymity

Contracted Service Provider

To facilitate the on-line donation process, the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency uses a contracted third party service provider, within the protections of Saskatchewan privacy legislation, to provide software services and information storage (Raisers Edge). The Saskatchewan Cancer Agency has an agreement with the Provider which restricts the Provider’s access to your personal information, requires the Provider to protect your personal information, and prohibits the Provider from selling or disclosing your personal information. Your personal information is stored in Canada.

Donor Bill of Rights:

The Cancer Agency subscribes to the Donor Bill of Rights which is endorsed by numerous philanthropic organizations around the world.

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the not-for-profit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:

  1. To be informed of the organization's mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
  2. To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization's governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
  3. To have access to the organization's most recent financial statements.
  4. To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
  5. To receive appropriate acknowledgment and recognition.
  6. To be assured that information about their donations is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
  7. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
  8. To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.
  9. To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that an organization may intend to share.
  10. To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.
